I'm Miller Simmons, III—a certified leadership and career coach, and someone who understands what it means to transform from the inside out.
For over twenty years, I've walked alongside leaders, executives, and professionals navigating the most critical transitions of their lives. I've held space for the unspoken—the weight of being the 'only one' in the room, the exhaustion of code-switching, the fear of stepping into power when the world hasn't always made room for you.
Safe Passage Coaching exists because transformation isn't a luxury—it's your birthright. And you deserve a coach who sees you, believes in you, and walks with you every step of the way.
At Safe Passage Coaching, we believe in the power of the human spirit to heal, grow, and lead.
Our name is rooted in the legacy of the Middle Passage—a history marked by unimaginable hardship and profound resilience. We honor that legacy by creating pathways for transformation grounded in compassion, authenticity, and excellence.
We specialize in human-centered, holistic coaching that uplifts professionals and leaders—especially those from BIPOC and marginalized communities.
Our focus areas include:
While our work centers on those historically underserved, we warmly welcome all individuals seeking purposeful, whole-person development. Whether you’re exploring new possibilities, leading through change, or seeking deeper alignment in work and life—Safe Passage Coaching walks with you every step of the way.
The name Safe Passage honors the legacy of the Middle Passage—a history marked by unimaginable hardship and extraordinary resilience. I chose this name because your journey matters. Your story matters. And creating a path where you feel safe, seen, and empowered to lead authentically—that's what I'm here for.
I specialize in holistic, trauma-informed coaching for professionals and leaders—especially those from BIPOC and marginalized communities. My work centers those who have been historically underserved, but I welcome anyone seeking purposeful transformation and whole-person development.
Whether you're navigating a career pivot, stepping into executive leadership, or reclaiming your voice in spaces that haven't always honored it—I'm here to walk with you.
At Safe Passage Coaching, we believe transformation isn’t a luxury—it’s a birthright.
Rooted in a deep respect for history, culture, and the human journey, our work honors resilience and empowers individuals reclaiming their power today.
What Makes Safe Passage Different?
This isn't therapy—but it is deeply therapeutic.
I don't work from a script or a one-size-fits-all model. I work from presence, intuition, and a trauma-informed foundation that honors your full humanity. My approach integrates:
• Somatic Awareness: Your body holds wisdom your mind hasn't yet named. I help you reconnect with that embodied knowing.
• Relational Intelligence: Leadership isn't about managing tasks—it's about leading people. I strengthen your capacity for authentic connection, empathy, and influence.
• Trauma-Informed Practice: I create space where your nervous system can settle, where you're not performing or proving, where you can simply be—and become.
Every conversation honors where you've been, who you are now, and who you're becoming.
Our coaching is holistic, human-centered, and liberation-focused, supporting the whole person—mind, body, and spirit approach.
Three Pathways to Transformation
Leadership Development
Lead with clarity. Influence with integrity.
Leadership isn't about having all the answers—it's about holding space for complexity, staying grounded in your values, and inspiring others through authentic presence.
In this work, you'll develop:
• Emotional Intelligence: Recognize how your emotions inform your decisions and impact your team
• Executive Presence: Command respect without performing dominance
• Strategic Vision: See the bigger picture while staying connected to your people
• Authentic Authority: Lead from your values, not from others' expectations
Ideal for: Emerging and established leaders, executives navigating organizational change, first-time managers stepping into authority, and leaders who want to create more inclusive, human-centered cultures.
Safe Passage Coaching blends strategic insight with embodied awareness, helping clients integrate their professional goals with personal wholeness.
Our approach includes three interconnected pathways:
Career growth isn't just about climbing the ladder—it's about building a professional life that reflects who you are and what you value. Whether you're navigating a transition, pursuing a promotion, or reimagining your entire path, I help you move forward with clarity, confidence, and purpose.
Together, we'll:
• Clarify Your Vision: Identify what fulfillment actually looks like for you
• Navigate Transitions: Whether it's a new role, industry shift, or entrepreneurial leap
• Build Your Strategy: Create actionable steps at honor both ambition and well-being
• Negotiate Your Worth: Advocate for yourself with confidence and clarity
Ideal for: Professionals considering career pivots, individuals preparing for promotions or negotiations, people feeling stuck or unfulfilled, and anyone ready to align their career with their authentic self.
We guide professionals through transitions, promotions, and pivots—aligning career goals with personal values and long-term vision.
Our process combines strategy and self-discovery, enabling clients to move forward with confidence, resilience, and renewed purpose.
Strengthen how you connect, communicate, and collaborate.
Leadership and career success don't exist in isolation—they're built on relationships. How you communicate, set boundaries, navigate conflict, and show up for others directly impacts your effectiveness and fulfillment.
This pathway focuses on:
• Authentic Communication: Say what you mean without compromising connection
• Healthy Boundaries: Honor yourself while staying in relationship with others
• Conflict Navigation: Move through disagreement with compassion and clarity
• Relational Intelligence: Understand the somatic and emotional layers of connection
Ideal for: Leaders working to improve team dynamics, professionals struggling with workplace relationships, individuals seeking to strengthen personal partnerships, and anyone wanting to lead with greater empathy and connection.
Because leadership and career growth don’t exist in isolation, we support clients in developing relational awareness and communication that fosters collaboration, empathy, and connection—at work and beyond.
This integration strengthens relationships and enhances your capacity to lead and live authentically.
Why Trauma-Informed Coaching Matters Now?
The workplace is experiencing a reckoning. Leaders are burning out. BIPOC professionals are leaving organizations that demand their excellence but don't honor their humanity. People are asking deeper questions about meaning, purpose, and sustainability.
Traditional coaching focuses on performance. I focus on wholeness. Because sustainable success isn't built on pushing through—it's built on integration, self-awareness, and the courage to lead from a grounded, authentic place.
If you're navigating spaces where you're consistently the 'only,' where code-switching is survival, where your leadership is questioned before it's even witnessed—this work is for you. If you're carrying generational weight, workplace trauma, or the exhaustion of being exceptional just to be considered equal—this work is for you.
You don't need another mentor telling you to lean in. You need someone who understands that your liberation isn't about fitting into existing systems—it's about leading in a way that transforms them.
This isn’t an add-on—it’s our foundation. Every coaching relationship is built on dignity, compassion, and respect for your lived experience.
I offer three interconnected pathways, each designed to support your whole person—mind, body, and spirit:
Leadership Development: Lead with clarity, influence with integrity. Cultivate the emotional intelligence, executive presence, and authentic power to lead in complex environments—without losing yourself in the process.
Career Transformation: Align your work with your worth. Navigate transitions, promotions, and pivots with a roadmap that honors both your strategic goals and your personal values.
Relational Well-being: Strengthen how you connect, communicate, and collaborate. Because great leadership doesn't happen in isolation—it happens in relationship.
goals, and context.
How We Work Together
Every coaching engagement is co-designed to reflect your unique story, goals, and context. Here's what to expect:
Discovery: We begin with a complimentary 30-minute conversation to explore your goals, challenges, and whether we're the right fit.
Co-Creation: Together, we design a personalized roadmap that honors where you are and where you're going.
Integration: Through regular coaching sessions, reflection exercises, and real-world application, you build sustainable practices for growth.
Reflection: We assess outcomes, celebrate progress, and anchor the insights that matter most.
Through this process, clients experience measurable outcomes and deeper alignment between who they are and how they lead.

I believe you are already creative, capable, and resourceful. My role isn't to fix you—it's to help you reconnect with your own knowing, reclaim your power, and lead from a place of authenticity and alignment.
My approach is grounded in three core principles:
1. TRAUMA-INFORMED PRACTICE
Trauma isn't just what happened to you—it's what happens inside you when your system is overwhelmed. Many of my clients carry workplace trauma, racial trauma, or generational weight that hasn't been named.
We co-create space where your nervous system can settle, where you don't have to perform or prove, where you can simply be. This foundation includes:
· Safety First: Emotional, psychological, and cultural safety guide every conversation
· Trust & Transparency: I show up with clarity, consistency, and authenticity
· Empowerment Over Rescue: I don't fix or diagnose—I help you reclaim your agency
· Choice & Voice: You guide the pace, focus, and goals of your journey
· Cultural Humility: I honor systemic and generational influences while supporting your liberation
2. SOMATIC AWARENESS
Your body knows things your mind hasn't yet named. Anxiety shows up as tension in your chest. Intuition speaks through your gut. Burnout lives in your nervous system long before it reaches your calendar.
I help you reconnect with your body's wisdom—not as a concept, but as a lived practice. We explore:
· How stress and trauma live in your body
· What your body needs to feel safe and present
· How to access grounded leadership presence, even in high-stakes moments
· The connection between embodiment and authentic influence
3. RELATIONAL INTELLIGENCE
Leadership isn't a solo act—it's relational. How you connect, communicate, and hold space for others determines your impact. I help you develop the capacity to:
· Lead with empathy without losing yourself
· Navigate conflict with compassion and clarity
· Build trust across difference
· Create psychological safety for your teams
WHAT THIS LOOKS LIKE IN PRACTICE
A coaching session with me isn't a performance review or a strategy meeting. It's a conversation where you're fully seen, where your questions matter more than having all the answers, and where transformation happens through integration—not force.
I ask powerful questions. I notice what you're not saying. I reflect back what I sense. I create space for you to discover what you already know but haven't yet claimed.
This isn't advice-giving. This is co-creation. And it works because you're not broken—you're becoming.

At Safe Passage Coaching, transformation begins with the truth: you are already creative, capable, and resourceful. Through this reconnection, clients experience meaningful growth in leadership, career, and relational well-being.

Therapy focuses on healing past wounds and treating mental health conditions. Coaching focuses on present challenges and future goals. I'm not a therapist—but my work is deeply therapeutic. I create space for emotional processing, somatic awareness, and transformation. Many clients work with both a therapist and a coach, and I support that integration.
It depends on your goals. Some clients work with me for 3 months on a specific challenge. Others engage for 6-12 months or longer for sustained transformation. Most clients begin seeing shifts within the first few sessions, but lasting change requires time and integration.
Absolutely. While my work centers BIPOC and marginalized communities, I welcome anyone seeking purposeful, whole-person development. My approach honors all lived experiences and identities.I have been working as a career coach for over 15 years, and have experience working with clients in a variety of industries and career stages. I hold a Master's degree in Career Counseling, and am a certified Career Development Facilitator and Certified Professional Resume Writer.
I primarily work virtually via Zoom, which allows me to serve clients nationally. I occasionally offer in-person sessions in the Washington, D.C. area for clients who prefer that format.
That's exactly what the complimentary discovery call is for. We'll talk about what you're navigating, what you're hoping for, and whether my approach feels like the right fit. No obligation, no pressure—just an honest conversation.
Some clients successfully use HSA/FSA funds or professional development budgets. I provide detailed invoices that you can submit to your administrator. Check with your plan to confirm eligibility.
I ask for at least a 24-hour notice for cancellations. Life happens—I get it. If you need to reschedule, just let me know as soon as possible and we'll find another time that works.
Coaching Relationship: Coaching is voluntary and the agenda is driven by your personal and professional interests and goals. You can expect your coach to encourage and support you as you explore possibilities and to engage you by asking powerful questions, sharing observations, and providing a safe, supportive space for discussion and collaboration. Your coach will count on you to be committed to your personal and professional development, open to accepting feedback, and willing to challenge current beliefs. You should also make time to complete agreed upon coaching and career development activities between sessions.
